The new Vishay Dale surface-mount power metal film resistors, with both 5% and 1% tolerances, offer designers a choice of power ratings and will provide stable operation in a wide range of electronic systems, from automotive ignitions and instrument gauges to power supplies and desktop PCs. The three resistors include 0.5-W (WSF2012), 1-W (WSF2515), and 2-W (WSF4527) versions offering a resistance range from 5 ohms to 10 kilohms. As a surface-mount replacement for higher-wattage axial leaded components, the new products will provide significant space savings in addition to lowering assembly costs. A flexible wrap-around terminal design compatible with temperature extremes, specially designed for automotive under-the-hood applications, eliminates the solder fillet cracking issues that are common to larger-sized thick film components. To ensure maximum reliability in automotive applications, the WSF2012 and WSF2515 are additionally rated for a 175°C maximum operating temperature. "Whether these resistors are used in an automobile's engine control module or in such applications as voltage dividers or digital multi-meters, they will greatly improve reliability and simplify the assembly process while allowing manufacturers to reduce the size and weight of their designs," said Joel Smejkal, Director, Product Marketing, Resistors. Samples and production quantities of all three new components are available now, with lead times of 8 to 10 weeks for larger orders. Vishay Intertechnology, Inc., a Fortune 1,000 Company listed on the NYSE (VSH), is one of the world's largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductors (diodes, rectifiers, transistors, and optoelectronics and selected ICs) and passive electronic components (resistors, capacitors, inductors, sensors, and transducers). These components are used in virtually all types of electronic devices and equipment, in the industrial, computing, automotive, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, and medical markets. Its product innovations, successful acquisition strategy, and ability to provide "one-stop shop" service have made Vishay a global industry leader.
