New MOSFET/Schottky Combination in the TSOP-6 Is Industry's Smallest For This Device Type: LITTLE FOOT PlusTM Devices from Vishay Offers Lowest On-Resistance and Smallest Footprint in the Industry

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - December 22, 1999 - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today announced that it is sampling a trio of combination power MOSFET/Schottky diode products in the TSOP-6, an industry-first for this device type. Compared with the closest competing MOSFET/Schottky products on the market, which are housed in the MicroTM package, on-resistance for the new LITTLE FOOT Plus devices is up to 25% lower, while their TSOP-6 package requires approximately 33% less board space.

The new LITTLE FOOT Plus products will be used for DC-to-DC conversion and power switching in cell phones and other mobile communications systems, where they will save space and reduce assembly costs compared with discrete MOSFET and Schottky solutions.

The devices released today include two p-channel MOSFET/Schottky products offering designers a choice of 30-V (Si3851DV) or 20-V (Si3853DV) breakdown voltages and an n-channel product rated at 20 V (Si3812DV).

Specifically intended for battery charging and disconnect applications in cell phones, the Si3851DV offers maximum on-resistance of 200 milliohms at a 10-V gate drive and Schottky maximum average forward current of 0.5 A, while the Si3853DV offers the same 200-milliohm on-resistance rating at a 4.5-V gate drive.

For DC-to-DC conversion applications, the new n-channel Si3812DV combines a 20-V breakdown voltage, a 0.5-A Schottky average forward current, and on-resistance ratings at gate drives of 4.5 V (115 milliohms) and 2.5 V (180 milliohms). The Si3812DV uses a new MOSFET process based on a state-of-the-art 32 million cells per square inch trench technology that provides very low on-resistance and also minimizes gate charge. Its high-frequency PWM-optimized design ensures very low switching losses, which in turn facilitates the design of high-efficiency DC-to-DC converters.

"These new LITTLE FOOT Plus TSOP-6 devices will enable smaller designs, more efficient use of battery power, and simpler board layouts, while streamlining assembly with an industry-standard package that is approximately two thirds the size of any other such product on the market," said Tony Grizelj, Market Development Manager at Vishay Siliconix.

Samples and production quantities of all three new LITTLE FOOT Plus products are available now, with lead times of 8 to 10 weeks for larger orders.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc., a Fortune 1,000 Company listed on the NYSE (VSH), is one of the world's largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductors (diodes, rectifiers, transistors, and optoelectronics and selected ICs) and passive electronic components (resistors, capacitors, inductors, sensors, and transducers). These components are used in virtually all types of electronic devices and equipment, in the industrial, computing, automotive, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, and medical markets. Its product innovations, successful acquisition strategy, and ability to provide "one-stop shop" service have made Vishay a global industry leader.
