Vishay WSL Power Metal Strip® Chip Resistors: Extended Range to 10 kOhms with 15 ppm/°C TCR (Patent Pending)

1506, 2010, and 2512 Package Sizes Save Board Space in Smaller, Lighter End Products

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - May 29, 2003 - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) has announced three additions to the WSL series of surface-mount Power Metal Strip® resistors.

With very low TCR values of just 15 ppm/°C and high power ratings of 0.25 W, 0.5 W, and 1.0 W, respectively, in compact 1506, 2010, and 2512 case sizes, the new, patent-pending, extended-range flip chip WSL resistors from Vishay maintain the superior electrical characteristics of the Power Metal Strip construction while occupying a smaller mounting area on the printed circuit board. The new devices also provide good overload capability using the PC board as a cooling device and long-term stability through a broad range of environmental conditions, thereby enabling design of smaller, lighter, and longer-lasting end products.

The WSL1506E, WSL2010E, and WSL2512E feature good pulse-handling capability and a very broad resistance range of 0.5 Ω to 10,000 Ω, with standard tolerances of ±1.0% and ±0.5%. All three resistors also provide low-noise operation of <0.01 μ V_(rms)/V, a voltage coefficient of <0.00001%/V (<0.1 ppm/V), and very low inductance of <0.08 μ H. They are specified for a category temperature range of -55° to +150°.

Based on Vishay's proprietary, fillet-less flip chip technology, the compact flip chip resistors are designed to provide a space-saving alternative to low-power leaded, wirewound resistors in current-sensing applications in telecommunications, industrial instrumentation, consumer electronics, and computing systems.

Provided in 8-mm (WSL1506E) and 12-mm (WSL2010E, WSL2512E.) tape-and-reel form, samples and production quantities of the new WSL extended-range resistors are available now, with a lead time of 10 weeks for larger orders.
